چکیده
Waterborne debris impacts during inundation events are a widely observed threat to structures in coastal communities. This study investigates the probability of impact and magnitude wave–current (N = 1,170) current-only 156) on exposed sheltered buildings within 10 × building array, using laboratory measurements structural loading response, flow hydrodynamics, video recordings transport impact. A methodology based system with single degree freedom is implemented estimate applied impulse from collisions investigate dynamic waterborne structures. Results show that collision varies greatly, between 42% for unsheltered rows 2% nine sheltering. Given collision, normalized at maximum 0.8 times conditions, this reduction increases as number sheltering increases. Using empirical exceedance probabilities impulse, framework developed response along comparison data existing standards. The effect duration relation also discussed.

Responses of free-living coastal pelagic fish to impulsive sounds.
The behavior of wild, pelagic fish in response to sound playback was observed with a sonar/echo sounder. Schools of sprat Sprattus sprattus and mackerel Scomber scombrus were examined at a quiet coastal location. The fish were exposed to a short sequence of repeated impulsive sounds, simulating the strikes from a pile driver, at different sound pressure levels. The incidence of behavioral respo...
متن کاملBiomechanical Dynamics of Cranial Sutures during Simulated Impulsive Loading
Background. Cranial sutures are deformable joints between the bones of the skull, bridged by collagen fibres. They function to hold the bones of the skull together while allowing for mechanical stress transmission and deformation. Objective. The aim of this study is to investigate how cranial suture morphology, suture material property, and the arrangement of sutural collagen fibres influence t...
متن کاملStudy on transferred impulse and response of steel plate walls under various impulsive loading considering mesh size effects
The behavior of steel plate walls (SPWs) under various impulsive loadings and the effects of different mesh sizes are investigated in this paper. With the aim of accurately inspecting SPWs, a series of analyses with 250 models with different plate geometric assumptions and different blast impulsive loadings are performed to study the SPWs’ out-of-plane behavior. The mild steel material specific...
متن کاملScalable loading of a two-dimensional trapped-ion array
Two-dimensional arrays of trapped-ion qubits are attractive platforms for scalable quantum information processing. Sufficiently rapid reloading capable of sustaining a large array, however, remains a significant challenge. Here with the use of a continuous flux of pre-cooled neutral atoms from a remotely located source, we achieve fast loading of a single ion per site while maintaining long tra...
